Mr. Tej B. Basnet

Founder of Friends of Bird

Mr. Basnet is a biodiversity expert and a founding member of Friends of Birds (FoB), Nepal. He has taught Zoology at Tribhuvan University and worked as a freelance ornithologist and biodiversity consultant on numerous projects across Nepal. He has decades of experience in birdwatching and has an equally important role in the FoB foundation.

As a FoB founder, Tej has played a key role in bird conservation through research, publications, and education. His scientific research on bird diversity in Nepal’s Himalayas has offered valuable ecological knowledge. He has also co-authored important works like the Nepal Biodiversity Resource Book, Birds Diversity in World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu, and the Demoiselle Crane Conservation & Educational Booklet and many more project reports.

Mr. Basnet, an active birdwatcher and bird conservationist, contributed his experience to FoB in many ways during its founding. His experience continues to support conservation efforts, staying true to FoB’s mission of protecting Nepal’s birds.
