About Friends of Bird. Bird

Friends of Bird (FoB) is an informal network of bird enthusiasts dedicated to promoting birdwatching, bird conservation, and environmental awareness in Nepal. Established in 2005, FoB was founded by a group of seven passionate birders who envisioned creating a common platform where bird lovers could come together to share knowledge, experiences, observations, and information related to birds and their conservation.

  • FoB is abbreviation of ‘Friends of Bird’.

  • FoB organizes periodic birdwatching events for the bird lovers, amateur photographers and college students in the Kathmandu valley.

  • FoB’s birdwatching is led by expert birder. The leader shows the birds to participants and tells a name of bird and species information; this allows new participants to see birds which they haven’t seen before and also know their name. This will help new birdwatchers to self-identification of a bird which they will be seen on following days.

  • Most of the birdwatching led by FoB take place at the rim of Kathmandu valley such as National Park, Protected Forest, Community Forest or buffer zones. Many bird species prefer to stay forest area, they do not like enter dense urban area, so it’s better to go birdwatching around forest. Sometime we organize birdwatching even near city area such as small community forest, river bank and small pond.

  • Everyone can join who loves birds, interested to observe birdlife and bird photographer. There are no age and gender boundary.

  • A new schedule is published on FoB’s official Facebook page few days before birdwatching.

  • No, it’s total free of cost for everyone.

  • Yes but conditional. Children should be completed 5 years. They shouldn’t be forced participation by parents.
