Mr. Rajendra Gurung

Founder of Friends of Bird

Mr. Gurung was born in a remote area of Nepal’s lower Everest region. After completing his early education, he moved to Kathmandu for higher studies while building a career in trekking and tourism. Over the years, he has organized and guided numerous tours and treks across Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan, and is among the few Nepali guides who have visited all three base camps of Mt. Everest (South, North, and East).

Mr. Gurung runs a nature and adventure based tourism company, specializing in trekking, wildlife, birdwatching, and cultural tours across the Himalayan region. Alongside his work in adventure tourism, he has a deep passion for nature and bird conservation. As a Patron Member and Former President of Bird Conservation Nepal BCN), he has combined birdwatching with his trekking and guiding activities.

He is also a founding member of the informal birding group Friends of Bird (FoB), which began with a group of enthusiastic birdwatchers in Kathmandu Valley and later expanded through online communities. Mr. Gurung is proud to have contributed to the growth of FoB and continues to support birdwatching, conservation, and environmental awareness in Kathmandu Valley and beyond.
